Where is Your Safe Harbor?

In my devotional reading this morning, the author said, “The power of sin is in secrecy.” This struck a chord with me.

When I choose to harbor a negative thought, I’m tucking it away, out of sight, yet… not out of mind. When a negative thought remains in my mind, a festering begins. The thought turns into a misconception, which grows into a fear that shuts me down. And being shut down is exactly where the enemy wants me.

Isolated. Stuck. Shut away.

In this state, I can easily justify my negative thoughts, but I’m reminded in Proverbs 18:1 that isolation is self-seeking: “He who separates himself seeks his own desire, He quarrels against all sound wisdom.”

Again, this is exactly where the enemy wants me and you to be. Wrapped up in negative narratives and wrongful thinking.

Then what are we to do?

Seek a safe place, a safe person of accountability. Wise counsel. Wisdom from a trusted source provides an outlet to bare our souls without fear of rejection or disapproval. A safe harbor.

Our minds are a battlefield and left to our own understanding; we will find ourselves wounded and scarred. And, oh, my friend, that is not God’s desire for our lives.

Where is your safe harbor?

Let’s journey together

Abba Father, the world can become so dark at times that I choose to stay tucked away, yet I know this is not Your desire.

Guide me to a safe place. Help me recognize a safe person in whom I can trust to share with me Your truth that sets me free.

I go to Your word, and I am replenished.

I go to Your people, and I find community.

Help me to reach out when I am tempted to tuck sin away.

To You be all glory and honor and praise.

Hallelujah.

Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves; do what it says. James 1:22

May YHWH bless you, keep you, and guide you in all you do. Until next time, this is Linda Goldfarb, and I’m so glad we are on this journey together with Father.
